If you decide to open a business and you are trying to brainstorm a name, will you do me a personal favor? Can you not have it include the word "Barn?" Unless your business directly involves livestock, or manure, or alfalfa, please don't use the word "barn" in your business name.
I have heard of "Dress Barn" and this is what I think they sell...
And when I heard of a place called "Car Barn" my mind automatically thought....
I refuse to even enter these businesses because of the word "Barn."
So, for those of you thinking of calling your store "Tire Barn" or "Jewelry Barn" or "Burger Barn" or "Sushi Barn" or "Electronic Barn" or "Bridal Barn" or "Dollar Barn" or "Ballet Barn" or "Office Barn" or "Furniture Barn" or "Fitness Barn" or "Insta-care Barn," just be warned that you have automatically lost a customer.
Well, all except for you, "Burger Barn." You actually kind of make sense.

ha ha ha...burger barn! That does make sense! I grew up in the country, still live close to the country, but have somehow seemed to escape the business barns.
Seeing it once is seeing it too often. How did Pottery Barn ever make it?
So, I thought I was just making up all of those other examples, but except for Sushi Barn and Insta-care Barn, they all exist in real life. Bridal Barn exists! Ballet Barn is real! Fitness Barn, too!
Have you ever heard of The Mattress Ranch in WA? I refuse to shop there completely based on their name and decor. Hideous!
Or The Golden Corral, a buffet establishment. I feel like I'm being herded into a glorified pig pen.
Thought of you today when I heard a commercial on the radio for the "Tobacco Barn." And then I immediately thought, "Eeeewwww! I'd rather take my chances stepping in manure!"
I am so glad to hear that Sushi Barn, at least, does not exist. (Although fish farms probably aren't exactly gentle on the olfactories, either.)
We have a buffet here called "Furrs." What a totally unappetizing name! I haven't been in any of those barns but I'm with you--how did Pottery Barn get so big?!
Just so I don't feel like a creepy stalker...
I will let you know that I came to your blog via your comment on Seriously So Blessed. Your blog named cracked me up. Mostly because the name hit so close to home. I also noticed that you have the Austins on your Asian blog list. Though I am the token Asian friend, she happened to be MY token Asian friend growing up.
We lived in Austin for a little while, right next to the Beer Barn. A drive through beer shop. Nice.
