This week I:
Sewed dresses.
Quilted.
Hand-washed dishes outside.
Sweated while weeding and pruning under the hot sun.
Fixed multiple bikes.
Baked carrot cake and zucchini bread.
Made a salad from my own garden vegetables.
Killed 150 grasshoppers.
It's amazing how pioneer-like we become when the cable gets turned off.

Are you guys going without? I commend you. You would have been an amazing asian pioneer.
p.s.-can you come over and kill my grasshoppers? I'm paying the kids .01 cents a hopper. But I'll double the price for you!
I don't know, Karin. For some reason, 3 cents a week for 150 grasshoppers doesn't sound like a good deal to me...
Should we pray for seagulls? I really thought you were on one of those Pioneer Treks with the youth. I can understand everything else, but why in the world were you washing dishes outside?
Just in time for the 24th of July too. Maybe they'll ask you to speak in Sacrament Meeting about your experiences!
The dishes were my neighbor's. Her dishwasher flooded and her sink was out of commission, so her kids and I pioneered it. I do feel festive!
Fabulous.
I'd love to see photos of the dresses.
My girls need new dresses, but I think I'd have to disconnect the internet before that would happen, so I think they'll have to make their own out of grocery bags. With maybe some cardboard box shoes to go with them. It sounds like a good way to celebrate Pioneer Day to me.
Is the no cable thing a temporary or permanent situation? We have been "pioneers" for about 6 weeks. It is amazing all the things you can get done. And the big plus is no Disney Channel. Yeah!
MIB-The dresses are made are so close to what you described, it's scary.

Pillowcase dresses! So easy! I did two in one hour. The most time consuming part is the ironing.
PD-by no cable, I mean no TV whatsoever. It's been rough. It is definitely a temporary thing.
About Disney, agreed...if I have to sit through one more "Suite Life" I will eat my own hair.
So funny that you should post the link to the pillowcase dresses; Courtney and I just made those at a sewing party we attended last Thursday.
That's so funny!
My cousin's kids make dress-ups out of actual plastic garbage bags all the time--it turns out that if you cut two leg holes in the bottom and put the handles over your shoulders like straps, they make a good leotard. So I guess I just need to open my mind and there are lots of things I could find time to make for my poor unclad daughters.
you know you are Mormon when...
We have been cable-less for about 6 weeks now too, but we've watched a crapload of netflix movies, so can't really say we're TV-less. I kind of love not haveing access to Disney Channel too.
I'm really glad you killed the grashoppers instead of eating them ... that would have been a little too much "John the Baptist" instead of "pioneer."
If I can throw in my .02 cents...Oh, never mind.
